I have been using a white muslin background for individual pictures that I am taking and every now and then the white background when printed has a blue tint to it, especially at the folds. This is not noticable during the processing phase. How can you get rid of this or prevent it from happening in the first place?

:)

The shadow areas, especially in daylight, will have a natural blue cast to them. Thats just the way light works.

You can use CS2 to mask the areas that are showing this blue cast and PP them out.

But, as you say, it isnt noticable during PP but is when printed, sounds like you're not using the same colour profile as your printer. Get it all set-up properly and they should either go away, or show up in PP and then you can magic them away with the magic of photoshop! :)

Is your monitor calibrated? Are you using any color management? Who is printing the pics? Do they have profiles available to download?

If your Monitor isn't calibrated and you don't have the profiles for the printers, it's going to be quite hard for you to get accurate colours from your prints.
Have a look at the Pantone Huey calibrator. It's quite reasonably priced and does a good job.
Also you should be able to get the profiles from the lab that you print at so you can verify how the print will look.

You could just remove all color saturation from the backdrop. That will kill any unwanted color, not just blue.
