any good? Need something wide for shooting interiors for realestate co.'s.
thanks for any help. Don't need anything fast. This sigma seems to be what I need. Just want to check about quality. Will use it with my 10D

"Workmanlike" is what I'd call it - suffers very badly from great big blue blobs of flare if there is any strong light source in the field of view, and image quality is okay but nothing special. I'm having bad luck with these lenses too - first one made ominous clicking noises, second one suffered really badly from flare and soft edges of shots, third one has been okay until recently but started producing badly over-exposed shots and it turns out the aperture blades are sticking, so it doesn't open/close at the right time. Sometimes stays stuck in the shooting aperture, rendering the camera inert in the process until the lens is removed.

If you get one that works reliably it'll be fine for your purpose unless you have any windows in the shot ?!

I've got a 15-30...

I don't shoot much wide angle, but I picked it up just to have 'in case'. It sits in my closet most of the time.. If I was big on wide angle, I would have picked up a better Canon lens.. (The 15-30 is my only non Canon)

Despite that, It isn't bad.. As DamienB writes.. It is pretty prone to flare when out in the sun, but the images are adequate..

If you're interested, I put a few shots I took up on Pbase.. These are full size unedited large fine JPEG with full EXIF attached.

Sigma also do a 12-14 lens that I use for interiors which i would rate as an average lens. But the extra width it gives compared with a 15 is really imo worth it.

As long as you use a tripod so you can afford a slow shutter speed and are happy to sharpen images digitally it does a fine job.

I picked up this lens the first time I heard about it. I've used it with a d60 a 10d and a 1ds. I really like the lens. I have had no issues with it. It does focus a little slower and a little louder then a canon lens but nonetheless I've had great results from the lens. Plus it is pretty cheap. The other weird thing about the lens that greatly effects the performance is the fact that it has two switches to set it to autofocus or manual focus. If you don't switch both the lens works very poorly. salmondocks8.jpg
