wow nice. reminds me of a article in my local newspaper this weekend. someone found a Great white heron in his back yard being choked to death on the ground by a corn snake. it appears he bit the tail not the head and the snake had no trouble getting in control. the guy managed to get the snake off of the heron, and then woke up in the morning and found the heron still in his yard, but this time with a ground dove speared in its bill. he took the heron to a local bird shelter, and it was later released, hopefully that bird will get some sanity back.

Just a great series Dennis. Must have been quite a show to watch, haha.

Billy, that's an interesting story too. :)

Very cool! Must have been thrilling to watch this...and you kept your composure throughout and got a marvelous series out of it. I really enjoyed viewing this.

Very nice series! The shots with the snake coiled around his neck are great!

Excellent captures of the GBH in action, Dennis! Wow, what an experience to witness this. The bird would probably be killed if the snake was venomous.

Thank you everyone for your looks and comments!

I have to admit I didn't know exactly what I had here when I shot the photos. The bird was an estimated 120-150 feet away All I could see through the viewfinder is that the bird grabbed the snake then started jumping around. It seemed odd he'd be so jumpy about something HE was attacking. I couldn't believe it when I put the photos up on the screen. The skirmish with the snake probably lasted 5-10 seconds. In another 15 to 20 seconds, the snake was toast. I shot the skirmish in continuous shoot mode.
