I see you are in Oregon - where were these shots taken? Scott, in my relatively short time shooting birds (abt 6 months), I've seen herons catch snakes more often than any other fare. So it appears that herons are your friends! Dennis

I took this series at the Ridgefield Wildlife Refuge just across the bridge into Washington. Thanks for looking and for your comments! I am glad to see Ridgefield worked out for you - I have been to the Carty Unit and on the auto-tour... I didn't like the auto-tour since I couldn't leave the car at all... But the Carty Unit was pretty cool (if only I didn't make it there at the birds bed time

Almost every picture I've posted has been taken from my truck on the auto tour. In a way, I've gotten used to it and the vehicle hide has its advantages. But it's also quite limiting especially for in-flights. Dennis

I am guessing that you used the Bigma, How do you like it for Bird Photography? ~David David, yes, the Bigma is my only long lens and I haven't tried any other long lenses as of yet. I would love to try the Canon 100-400 some day. I feel I've improved over the last few months with the bigma and I'm getting more keepers. Like any new tool, it takes a little getting used to. But part of any improvement I might be seeing has to do with learning from the great photographers on this forum and has nothing really to do with the lens itself. The fact that so many wonderful photographers on this forum use the lens and produce stunning images, gives me hope and something to aspire to. Dennis

GaryFairhead Cream of the Crop More info | May 04, 2007 10:50 | #60 I saw this thread the other day at work and have been meaning to take another look on my home ( much better) monitor. Very unique series here and the second and third images in particular show a sense of panic in the Heron. Great action!! Gary Fairhead C/C welcome .....
