Just put CS3 on my Vista machine and it keeps crashing. When I open a file i get the message

"The embeded ICC profile cannot be used because the ICC profile description is invalid. Ignoring the profile."
I can then open the file but its flat and muddy, I work on it but cannot save it.

Im using my 30D on sRGB and opening jpeg files. If I ignore the profile then try to save my file the system crashes.
Whats happening? Anyone else had this trouble?

Ive went into colour settings and chose sRGB Adobe, RGB, covert to working settings but still get the same problem.
Anyone got any advice they can give me its driving me mad.

Thanks

Reboot, reinstall CS3, reboot. Open colour management and set your parameters.

Full frame and some primes.

Re booted, Re installed....twice, no change. The two error messages I get are, on import
" The embeded ICC profile cannot be used because the ICC profile description is invalid. Ignoring the profile"

If i Ignore and carry on import the photo loads flat and lifeless. I can then manipulate it but when I go to save i get the error

"Could not save because the ICC profile description is invalid"

One thing I have just noted is that all the pics that fail to load have been opened in Lightroom previously. Would this cause any problems???

Im going to put some fresh photos on from my camera to see if it loads those ok. In the meantime any adise appreciated.

Thanks

Vista Ulitmate and CS3 (as a solo app.) are running fine together on my machine.

However, I may have to reinstall LR since it's not giving me the option to export images to CS3. It works fine on my laptop with XP SP2, but for some reason LR is not recognizing CS3 on my Vista machine. I suspect that it may have something to do with the fact that I was exporting images to CS2, which LR recognized, but then uninstalled it when I upgraded to CS3.

Have you tried opening another image from somewhere else, like myabe something from the web? Take a shot in Adobe RGB and try opening it in PS. It sounds like to me that this is a profile problem, meaning that your sRGB profile in Windows is corrupt.

Malone, have you hit the Adobe froums? I remember seeing something on there that fixed this problem (in the Lightroom section).

I initially had the same problem but did a re-install of CS3 and LR recognized it with no problems.

The OP's issue is not with Vista.

I just noticed this, I missed it the first time. Are you exporting your files from Lightroom to CS3 or did you just edit them in Lightroom and then open them in CS3? Maybe Lightroom needs to be reinstalled, not CS3.

Sounds like viable solutions. I'll give it a go and see what happens. In any case, I don't think it's a Vista related issue. Maybe. We'll see...

Sounds like that might be the solution indeed. Thanks for the link.

Funny thing is, I'm a member of the Adobe forums, but still try to find answers here first. Must be a POTN comraderie thing. ;)

Thanks for the help folks,
Sorry for the delay in getting back, bit of a busy schedule lately.
I uploaded some new photos from my 30D (Adobe rgb) If i set my coulorspace in PS3 to Adobe RGB I can open the files but not save them. If I set my colour space to SRGB i cannot even open them.
I then tried to open them in lightroom, no problem. I can manipulate and save and even export to photoshop.
I have been in touch with adobe and tried to send them a file which im having problems with through their browse function but I get an error saying among others that it must be a jpeg file. It is a jpeg file but there seems to be some corruption of the file taking place i think.
I await a response from them and meanwhile will re read this thread and check out a few suggestions.

Mark

Vista x64 ultimate and CS3 work great for me. No issues beyond the occasional hiccup, like closing files can take a few extra seconds....
