Photoshop 7

This program doesn't seem to be able to rotate a photo a little to level it. Am I missing someting here?

Irvanview
Can rotate to any degree but one has to guess at the degree and do it over and over until the right degree is found. Hasn't someone automated this yet to level a picture to a level line?

Use the Ruler tool (to get to it,click on the little triangle at the lower right corner of the Eyedropper tool in the Tools palette). Then click on one point on the horizon or line you want to straighten and, while keeping the left mouses button pressed, drag the mouse to another point on the horizon or line. Then let go. A reference line will be drawn for you.

Now, you can go into Image > Rotate Canvas > Arbitrary... (notice that the angle is already filled in for you) and click OK. That'll automatically align the reference line horizontally or vertically depending on which one the line is closest to. You can also just type in your own angle without using the Ruler Tool if you want.

BTW, if you really want to or have to use the Rotate tool, you can clicking on Edit > Free Transform. Drag the image layer a little so that one of the corners of the image is visible. Position the cursor just outside the corner so that the cursor turns into an arc with an arrow on both ends. You can now left click the mouse and drag the corner to rotate and align the image anyway you want. Press the Enter key to commit the change.

If the image is locked so that Free Transform is grayed out, convert the background image to a layer image first by clicking Layer > New > Layer from Background.

I'm not much of a shortcut user so what exactly does <CTLR> + T do? I just tried it on PC which is running PS 7 and nothing happened (unless I just missed it).

I just tried Cntl-T It brings up a little double pointed curved arrow and you can grab the image and twist it. Worked great. Thanks for that.

I'll try the ruler tool soon when I have a chance. Thanks for that tip too.

Cheers,
T.
