Drove to town during lunch break today, on the way back to work thought I'd check out a local river even though it was overcast and drizzling rain. After saying yesterday I had never seen an Eagle on a fence post before, what did I see, another one. This one isnt far from the adult plumage.

#1 Looking right

#2 Looking Left

#3 Looking up

#4 Take off

#5 outta here

When I got as close as I thought the Blue Heron would let me, I eased the camera up into position and hit focus.....it hunted...arrrgghh. By the time it hit focus the heron was airborne, managed the following shots. The first is full frame, resized, only PP was a touch of contrast. The second is a crop of the first, same PP. Sorry the first is clipped on the wings, but I was zoomed in for a "standing shot", not a flight shot.

#1 Full frame

#2 crop

#3 gone with the wind..and rain

Very nice! Love the old fence posts :)

And look at the size of that wing span on the GBH! Amazing!

The eagle shots say it all Trevor. The bad weather and the somewhat ragged look of the bird just say it's been a tough day. Great stuff. The #2 heron shot is an awful nice closeup of that bird in-flight. I know exactly what you're saying about being ready for the bird that size to take off. I've missed many an opportunity for just that reason. #1 heron could have been superb! A very enjoyable series!

Nice captures Trevor. You did well with the GBH given the circumstances. I'm still looking for a good flight shot.

Great series. Love that first eagle shot Trevor. It really works well with the surroundings.
He looks like he had the same kind of day I had yesterday. :)
...and boy could he ever use a new set of feathers.

Trevor, I've seen this bird before. Poor thing looks awful bedraggled. And a nice save with the heron. They came out very good. :)

Well done, Trevor. Really neat shots of the change to the white head for the Eagle.
