I have a specific use for the 24-70, so I keep it...but for everyday use, the 24-105 IS is almost always mounted on one of my bodies. There is no difference in sharpness...they are both excellent and provide great results for my purposes. I tried a 17-55 IS and sent it back...

How is the 24-105 L on a overcast day outside with the IS? Probably as good as the 24-70L at f2.8? That usually is my darkest shooting weather.

Renatls are hard to get here and too costly. Cheaper to buy from BH and then resell it.

.

Amazon has a pretty generous return policy (at least here in the U.S.). Two years ago I bought a 28-135 IS lens, tried it, didn't like it, sent it back no problem for a full refund.

I think I'm in a similar dilema, I have the 24-70 but for some reason I'm drooling over both the 17-55 IS and 24-105 IS.... someday :)

Its my second sharpest lens tied with the 70-200 I have. The only sharper lens I have is the 300mm f4 IS L.

the same as the 24-70L would be. in the middle these lens are very similar. things change at the extremes.

the 24-70L renders better IQ, imo. but it's not drastically better. bokeh's a different story. night and day.

still, if you want a good walkaround and you have other lenses for creativity you may really like the 24-105L.

i did for awhile :D .

I think that it all depends on what you shoot. If you feel that it suits your needs, then why not?

People always say "I don't shoot a lot of low-light, so I won't miss the extra stop". What these people don't realize is the 24-105 is BETTER in all low-light situations that do not involve a fast moving subject.

The 3-stop IS on the 24-105 lets you hold the lens steady for 2 MORE stops then you would be able to with the 24-70. So in the same low-light conditions and shooting hand-held, the 24-105 will usually give you noticeable better results if your shutter speeds are in the 1/30 or slower range.

It's has a larger range and is much better in the hands then the 24-70. If you're not shooting fast moving subjects, then there's really no reason to have the 24-70.
