I am dealing with 10 megapixel JPEGS and my computer has 2 GB of ram and a fast processor. The built in windows XP slide show can render the pictures easily enough so can Canon's software but the lightroom software renders much too slowly resulting in a slide show that looks like it was shot out of focus. If, time is a constraint then you could export to a smaller JPG then bring them back in for the slide show.

However, when I export the slideshow to pdf, I knock down the timings to 4.5 and 1.5 seconds and have had no problems with the images loading quickly outside of Lightroom.
