I work until 7pm Tuesday thru Friday, so after work today, I went out to Lake Draper which is about 3 miles south of where I work. I was looking for Baltimore Orioles but got the Indigo instead. This guy landed on a brush pile about 10 feet away. This was taken about 45 minutes before sunset. Will try to get out there earlier in the days to come.

A gorgeous bird and one beautiful capture. How did you get the black background? Was that natural (or, heaven forbid! photoshopped?) Whatever, it's an incredible shot. Very nice!

No photoshopped BG. It was late in the evening, about 7:30pm, the BG is the edge of the treeline about 50 feet away. The fill flash made it look darker than it was. The overall image is a little dark, but I knew that going in. I could have boosted levels but that would induce more noise, I was already at ISO 400.

This is a sweet shot. A fair trade for an Oriole. I've been looking for Orioles here too, since there are all kinds of old nests hanging around, but haven't seen one yet. :)

wow. gorgeous, the flash really brings out the color and seperates the bird from the background, great shot.
