We've been covered up with goldfinches lately.

These are both fantastic..I like the second one despite the odd angle. I believe that 400 was made for you. :)

Excellent shots. We have lot's of them here too, but I can't get them to land on the good sticks. They are always at the feeder or in the wild cherry tree. :D

Here's the trick... I just took a gnarly branch from the woods and tied it to the top railing of our deck, then sprinkled birdseed under the branch. The birds land on the branch before they drop down to get at the seeds. Ta-Da! Cheating is such an ugly word... I prefer "pre-planned perches"...

Ah, OK. Mine don't seem to be interested in anything but Niger seed though. Only every once in awhile will they land at the other feeder with the milo and stuff.

But, about 10 minutes ago, I went out and moved the niger seed feeder to one of my strategically placed "pre-planned perches". ;)

There you go! They wear out the sunflower seeds here, as well as the thistle and niger. Last year I didn't have a single yellow finch, this spring we've got dozens out there as long as the sun is shining. Don't know why, just love having the variety and color. We're expecting some goldfinch shots from Wisconsin, now...

Might I just say that your choice of a pre-planned perch was excellent....

There are worse things to be covered up with :D

Your shots are great and I must say I admire the ingenuity of your "perch system". I'll make sure I remember that!

Well, I can see it from here and since moving it, they haven't been back. LOL

It takes them about an hour to get use to it. I've moved it before. :)
