New Macro/First photo

I just got my first macro lens so I've been photographing nearly everything but this is my best photo by far. So any comments that could help me improve would be great.

Honestly, if you want to beat hand shake get a tripod and a remote release.

If you have a flash, you can always use some kind of diffuser for it and use a shutter speed to suit your needs.

I am also a beginner. I made my own "LordV diffuser" from a couple of coke cans. It works very, very nicely. I currenlty have the 580EX mounted on my camera (no bracket) but a little bit of tweaking and I cat get nice shots, indoors and out.

I haven't been playing around with it, but so far I've been using 1/200 shutter speed, f11, ISO 100 and some FEC depending on what I am shooting. Works OK!

Also I'm finding hand shake worse with a macro now and even a higher than normal shutter speed doesn't help a lot. So any ideas or links on how to help this like is there a different way you hold the camera or anything would be a great help.

great start just a bit dark

Excellent start- could do with a bit of lightening as courierman suggests. You could just try just using a pole of some sort and hold it in your left hand along with the lens or the camera body.

I'm looking into a flash but doubt it will be any time soon. Found a bargin 430ez but was manual with my camera and £199 for a 430ex needs some more saving and I'm not too sure I need a flash other than for macro.

I've brighten that up too.I did it a bit more but then it just looked more like a yellow blob rather than a flower.
I might try the pole idea as I have a tripod but found for anything that moves I just can't adjust it quick enough.
