So now I have two bodies and two cards, but the file names will conflict. The new card started at _8449, so I reset the old to 0001, but at some point Im going to get conflict.

How do you get round this? I presume Im going to have to batch rename somehow?

What software do you use to import/organise your images. Most will allow you to rename as you ingest them to your hard drive.

I'm not farmiliar with the 5D, but does it not have a method of changing the "prefix" used on images?

Since Rene already gave you the answer I will only add that since you use Lightroom you should rename during Import. It is very easy to do and you can setup presets. I only have one camera but still rename all my files becasue at 10,000 shots the numbers start over again (IMG_0001 is the same for shot #1 and shot #10,001, #20,001, etc.). I use the date and filename, like 2007_05_03__MG_1219.DNG.

guys thanks very much I figured it out. Im finding it fairly easy to rename from DPP, and then dump them in watched folder. Still finding LR a little tricky and also that I prefer DPP for processing sometimes, but getting there. LR so far is superb for management.
