Dead Pixel

I have my MKII and I have ONE dead pixel on the right hand bottom. I not sure if I should take it back since they are so hard to get.

Any suggestions?



Otherwise the camera is OUT OF THIS WORLD. It is amazing, fast and dead on. I really like this camera. I think it was worth the money.

It likely isn't covered by warranty. It probably needs to have 7 or so dead pixels before it is covered.

Perhaps, I could return it to B&H. I will see, I don't know if it is worth the trouble. They are out of stock so that means I have to wait.

Where do you mean you got a dead pixel? On the image-sensor or on the LCD? I know you usually have to have 5-7 (or so) dead pixels on a computer-LCD-screen before you're covered by warranty (but of course can vary depending on the type of screen). On imaging-sensor on the other hand, I would definetly think one dead pixel should be covered by warranty. But what might I know.. A professional graphics artist using his computer to design graphics would probably say the same about computer-monitors

I would not have sent the camera back to B&H now. One of 8 million+ pixels beeing screwed really isn't that big problem Unless of course you're talking of a "pixel-group" of more than one pixel beeing dead. I'm really more concerned "how" you actually found that one single dead one Have never controlled weather my 10D have dead pixel(s). Haven't seen any yet at least. Got a few ones on my old cam, but they never bothered me, since they where so hard to find, and so easily correctable in Gimp if I really bothered enough. Hot-pixels (those shining up red/green/blue) during long exposures I found so much more annoying Still easy to correct, but they're so much more visible than the ones simply beeing black

Oh, I forgot.. What I meant was: I would not send it to B&H at this time. I would wait until the MKII gets easier to obtain.. Cause if it's covered by warranty, you're covered for tree years or so (don't know american warranties in great detail), and since dead-pixels can't be a "user-error", you will anyway be covered if you decide to wait half a year or so.

I would play around with my MKII now, and rather send it in for replacement after a year or so, when it starts to get scratches and such. Or even better, replace it just before you sometime in the future (maybe) sell it, and sell it as "brand new, never opened"

Thank you, I agree. I would if they were easy to get. I live in NY, I go to B&H often.

It is on the LCD screen. I will live with it for now.

Oh. Don't know if that's refundable though. Think not. Think I got one myself actually when you mention it =) At least it isn't refundable on regular LCD-screens unless the number is higher than the "category" the screen was made for. They got categories for dead-pixels, like:

* MAX one! (very expensive)
* 1-4 (still expensive)
* 4-7 (this is about where the consumer-screens are)
* 7- (the crappy ones )

But you seldom see 7 dead pixels on a consumer-screen, it's just the "max allowed" before you can claim a refund. Number of pixels on the camera-LCD is of course a lot less, so it should be easier to make them "fault-free", but I don't know if they guarantee it. In fact I doubt that :/ But you could of course phone canon and hear.

For $5k, it's REFUNDABLE. I never have any problems at B&H.

If it is on the LCD screen, then they may say that it is not service-affecting. Of course, you have the right to say that it is.

If it were on the sensor, then I would raise hell. That is service-affecting.

Anyway, the LCD-screen can't be that expensive in pure parts. If canon's nice, they replace it no matter if it's service-affecting or not. Although, I wouldn't bet money on it. If not, I doubt hardly that the screen itself cost more than $50 when a service-center buys it, so the price will probably boil down to the service-time they have to spend on replacing it.

You know, my 1D had 5 dead pixels on the rear LCD when I got it. I never cared enough to bother having it replaced. What does it matter really? The rear screen is just for menus and histograms anyway.

I know you what you mean, it really isn't a big deal. I was just being VAIN. What can I say, WOMEN! We love the look. I am fine with it.
