I'm not a big computer guru, so I will do my best to explain. Especially since this has been an ongoing problem when I had my 20D and now my MkII as well.

Straight from the CF card, CS2 had and still continues to have no problem opening my now 20D(less) and current MkII RAW files. However, when I have a few CF cards full, I burn the RAW files onto a DVD. Suffice to say, when I go to open the exact RAW file through CS2 via the DVD a error message comes up, "Could not complete your request because it's not the right document." So what gives here? If it matters, I use Nero to burn my CD's and DVD's. Concidently, I've never encountered a problem burning CD's, but DVD's are a whole other story. This is all running on my Compaq desktop PC with Window XP Home Edition.

I want to say it's a problem with Nero, but I'm not too sure. I wanted to get some of your input - hence the reason for this thread. Any insight that anyone might have on what the problem could be, I would greatly appreciate it. I really don't want to erase 3GB worth photos on two CF cards because there is a problem backing it up on DVD.

I haven't had that problem but mine is very slow to open the files from a CD or DVD.

Hmmm!!!

I have never tried to open an RAW file from a CD/DVD but as when you create such 'disks' the files are set as 'read only' so it is possible that the Adobe Camera RAW (ACR) will not allow for opeing read only files.

You can test the theory by changing the attributes of a file on the hard drive by right clicking it, going to properties and ticking the appropriate box. Then see if ACR will open the RAW file?

If that is the case you will just have to copy the files back to your Hard Drive when you need to PP them but bear in mind that the attribute may need changing once transfered. I once read of batch script that would copy a batch of files from a CD/DVD and change the attribute on the fly as they transfered.

Oh, I just tried with a CR2 file and whether read only or not my CS2 opens them fine. Thinking hat on ???

HTH maybe ;)

That was a great meal ~ you must have a good set of pans :p

When CS2 edits a RAW file it creates a XMP sidecar file. This file is created in the same directory as the RAW file. CS2 can not write to a burned CD/DVD (actually probably not to any CD/DVD).

1. Put them on your hard drive not DVD.
2. Read the ACR FAQ (link in my sig).
