I posted these in the Lens Section, I thought it would good to post here as well, just got my hands on my new Canon 300mm f/2.8L IS , I have had the lens for a couple of hours and shot a few garden birds, initial impressions are that this lens is stunningly sharp wide open at f/2.8, The pigeon shots are at f/5 all the rest f/2.8. Overcast skys.

Canon 30D and 300mm f/2.8L IS

Comments welcome.

Congrats on the new lens. Yes it looks like a keeper, and you posted some great shots. They demonstrate your abilities as well as the lenses. Nice work!

Very nice Nick. That second Pigeon must be an American Pigeon. :D

I feel downright skinny compared to the bird in the second photo. These are all great shots--obviously a combination of a great lens and a skilled user.

Wonderful shots! Try a 1.4xtender or try stacking extenders---it's still pretty darn sharp!

Very nice.

Just got the same lens. Only a few test shots so far, with great results.. Like above, both the 1.4x and 2x work great with this lens, I haven't stacked yet. It handles them much better than my 70-200 f2.8. Can't wait to get out and do some shooting with my 300.

Thanks guys for all your advice and comments, I spent a few hours today in the garden with 1.4x and 2.0 TC's (extenders) I can't believe how much PP I don't have to do now especially sharpening, I am over the moon with this lens. I have posted a few of the pics I took today in another post.:-
