I can't get over this little chipping sparrow. He's the smallest bird in my yard yet he has no trouble taking over this open feeder and keeping it for himself. I guess it's tiring work. :D

Thanks Wayne and Trevor. LOL, I've never seen them "sitting" in the seeds either. I thought it was pretty funny. But this little guy is becoming very tame. That seed spot is about 4 feet outside my window and I was just sitting there talking to him and watching him eat and stuck my hand out there to within about 2 feet of him and he just ignored me. :)

LOL that is a great shot. I spend alot of time with the birds in my yard and not one of species let me get within 8' of them before taking off. I am so jealous you can get that close.

Thanks Deb, Nancy, Billy and Chris. This little guy is always entertaining. He chases the other sparrows around, even gets after the House Finches and Goldfinces. I think the others are just playing, cause this guy is about the size of my thumb, maybe half the size of a normal house sparrow. :)

Chris, I spend a lot of time with my yard birds too and this one is the only one that comes close, and it's more like he just doesn't see me or knows he can get away if I make a sudden move. Or, it could just be his character. :)

Here's one more, after he moved. He moved around several times and kind of nestled down into the seeds like it was a beanbag chair each time.

That is really something, Mitch! You really have a way with our fine feathered friends and it shows in all your work. Superb shots of a cutie!

Very cute pictures of the Chipping sparrow, I have never seen a wild bird sit in a pile of seeds like that either and I am not sure that's normal behaviour. I hope there's nothing wrong with the little guy.

Very good shots. I guess the Chipping Sparrow feels like it has won the lottery. ;-)a
