Those are fantastic shots, I am a bit worried though........talking to the bird, what were you saying.......but then if it stayed still then maybe I should try this talking approach, what did you say? :D

The 3rd image gives him a, "What are you looking at?" attitude.

It is funny to watch different animal's personalities and how they interact with others. A great series of photos of a very personable bird.

Wow, thanks Dennis, Downy, Calico, Sindri, Grizz, Don, Eccles, Jason, Mark, AJ, Bill, Dan and Keith. I'm glad you enjoyed him as much as I do. Downy, he's fine. This guy has personality and I guess he just figured it was easier to sit still and guard the hoarde than to chase everyone around. He seems to have brought his whole family with him, since I have seen up to 4 Chipping Sparrows in the yard at once, although he seems to be the boss. :)

but then if it stayed still then maybe I should try this talking approach, what did you say?

Mark, I was taking some shots of a Cardinal in the wild awhile back and it looked like it was ready to fly away before I got some good shots, so I started talking to it while shooting. You know, just baby talk or like you would talk to a parakeet. And it stopped, while I was shooting, thought for a second, then went back to doing what it was doing instead of flying off. So I have tried this on other birds since and many times it has had the same effect. They just relax.

I have two mated pairs of Brown Headed Cowbirds in my yard now and at first, they would fly away if they even saw me in the window. So I started talking to them. Now, I can sit in the window with them only 15 feet away and they ignore me while I adjust the lens, reach for my coffee, even get up and move away. This only took a day or two for them to figure out I am harmless. Yesterday I went out while they were at a feeder, to sprinkle more seeds on the lawn. They flew up to a little tree about 10 feet away and waited while I put the seeds out then went back on the ground to eat as soon as I left. :)

Thanks Gary. Unlike that park feeder where downys, chickadees and nuthatches will land in your hand, my birds aren't that tame yet. But it's always a special occasion when any bird comes within 3 or 4 feet of you and goes on with business as usual. You've been accepted so to speak. :D
