My L lens just came in the mail today. The date code is UV0316, which means that it was manufactured in March 2007. Has anyone noticed that Canon changed the Image Stabilization from I/0 to On and Off? I like this MUCH BETTER! I used to have this lens and had sometimes paused to think if "0" is on or off. lol. :D Not sure when Canon started this or if anyone has noticed this, so I just wanted to share!

That's observant of you.. very neat :)

Mine is a UT1014, and I can confirm I have the old symbology.

I've noticed that Canon makes minor little useability changes to lenses as necessary, not enough to warrant a "Mk II" or detract from the value of existing lenses. For example, I was an early adopter of the 17-85 IS USM and the AF/MF switch had a raised hump. That was 2 years ago. Recently I handled a brand new one fresh out of its box and I noticed that the AF switch was now flush with the surface, just like the newer switches on the 70-200 f/4L IS (as one example).

Personally I am fine with the 1/0 .. maybe because I work with computers and read their ones and zeroes too often :D

Never noticed that they'd changed. My US 100-400 has 0/1; my 70-200 2.8 IS UT has On/Off.

Yah, I guess I was just a little bored. lol. Thats great of Canon to notice these things to make it easier and better for consumers. I was just really happy to see that change because my previous had the I/0. On another note, I really regretted selling this lens and missed it ever since... I will never depart with my baby again!!!!! LOL!

Sounds like it was changed in 2006. July was mentioned as having "on/off" and mine from October is the same (naturally).

So the great hype and anticipation for the 100-400 IS update has finally come! They didn't update the IS but they did do the switch! :D
