Here is a shot of the legendary Australian band X that I took at a sound check a few days ago for use as a press shot.

C&C welcome.

Would that be X the punk band?

If so, I thought they were Canadian.

Nice shot.

Thanks - there are 2 X's one was the Australian X who started in 1977 when Ian Rilen RIP left Rose Tattoo and teamed up with Steve Lucas and a couple of other lads, they got lumped into the whole punk genre but were always something far more - they remain the best live band I have ever seen and Thursday night there were moments during their show that transported me to other places - and no there wasn't any chemical assistance!

They missed their shot at more commercial success one of the contributing factors being members of the band getting drunk (think 48 hour bender) and then disrupting a board meeting at a major record label that included ripping gold records from the board room walls and smashing them. That pretty much had them blacklisted from the commercial music world.

More info on the Australian X can be found at http://www.ianrilen.com/ (external link) http://profile.myspace.com …79-4e72-bb78-f83a5cc1da84 (external link) and http://www.dropkick.com.au/band.php?band_id=18 (external link) while info on the American X can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X_(US_band (external link))

I just realized ... it is the guy on the right that makes it so much more than just a snapshot of the three of them ... he is a counter-weight, the Ying to their Yang, almost detached from them while still be integral ... a lot Zen in this image ... but I wish her hair was out of her eyes! :-)

Very true Dwight and that's what I really like about the shot too; especially when you know the history of the band.

Steve, the guy on the left is the only founding member of the band left alive, Cathy played drums with them for a long time but left them for a period. Kim, the guy on the right replaced Ian Rilen who founded the band with Steve, Ian died of cancer late last year; Kim was the lead guitarist in Ian's other band the Love Addicts for many years and was asked to strap on the bass to fill Ian's spot in X; Ian was a genuine legend in Australian music both as a performer and a songwriter - X without Ian was something many people baulked at but seeing them with Kim in the band and the way Ian's style rubbed off on Kim makes him a genuine fit within the band.

Guy on the right is nice. Girl is nice. Not sure if I mind the hair in front of the eye. I think I do. Guy on the left is leaning back a bit too much (in combination with the low viewpoint). Also his hand is in the way.

Lighting could be improved (big time) by moving the flash off camera, or bouncing it off a wall or reflector. (You'ld also be rid of the (very distracting) reflection in the lower right.) Either that or use ambient as backlighting.
