I recently purchased a 5D and was wondering how often 5D users change the picture styles? If you PP, is it even necessary to change styles? I shoot in Raw and standard picture mode and, so far, am amazed at how my pictures come out of the camera.

I use a 1D2, but use DPP, so could use picture styles if I wanted.
I don't want to however, since most suck IMHO. I use 'Neutral'.

I think Rob Galbraith (external link) summons it up quite nicely: "Canon's decision to stay the course on colour also means that the other Picture Style settings range from being marginally useful to just plain bad. Having a range of colour looks to choose from is a great idea, but Standard, Portrait, Landscape and Faithful all need to be refined or replaced before we'd choose them for anything other than special shooting situations. Neutral is a very, very good choice, Standard can be of help when the when the scene is flat and reds in particular need heaps of livening up, but after that you're into a virtual No Man's Land of colour."

When shooting raw, it really doesn't matter what the Picture Style is set to. I just leave mine on Standard. It's during PP with DPP when I decide if one of the other styles might suit the picture better for a particular shot. Usually I just stick with the Standard setting but there are times when Portrait or Landscape might be a better starting point. I then just tweak the image colors from there.

You gotta try the landscape style, my personal favorite
