Another list bird, one of two today. I am always amazed what comes right into my yard every day. This is one of two males that showed up this morning. He looked tired. :D

Thanks Jason. I couldn't believe it when two of them just flew into the yard and went right for the feeders. I'm assuming they just arrived and hope they stay around for some more shots. They have a nice song too.

BTW, did you see this thread? You might be interested in it, with that Bigma. ;)

Thanks Edward. This is the first time I have seen these birds, and was a little surprised at how big they are. Never expected that, from just seeing images in the forums, but they are about the size of a starling. :)

I had two males and 1 female on my feeders today. They ARE bigger than you expect. Beautiful shots, Mitch. I got some on the feeders but they aren't as nice as yours on the tree.

Thanks Karen. Brlieve me, I have a lot of shots of them at the feeder. Again, my shooting finger got the best of me. :)

Great shots! It is one of my favorite birds! It's kind of ironic too because I just got my best shot ever of one today. Two pairs of them arrived on Wednesday here I think and I hope they stick around for a while. Today is an extra special day at my feeders because I've had 4 grosbeaks, 2 rufus-sided towhees, pileated woodpecker, etc...
Anyway good job and I hope you really enjoy them because they are a great bird. Look out for the females too, because they should be close by!

Thanks Urban and Joayne. I was again trying to shoot at real slow shutter speeds and blurred some of the shots, but normally, I wouldn't have gotten anything. The top one is at 1/25s and the next two at 1/20s. I think I would have tried for faster speeds with a new bird, but didn't have the time. :)

Thanks Jim and Reigh. I just hope they come back. I'm still charged up from seeing them, and my book says they stay around here for the summer. So I'm hoping for more shots. :)

I'm not trying to let you down or anything, but I usually only see them for a couple of weeks. Maybe it is different where you live, but since they came around the same time, I would enjoy them while we can!

And also- how far away was the bird in your pics?
Thanks
~Liz

Thanks Liz, the bird was 25-28 feet away and I was using the Sigma 50-500mm with a 20mm Kenko tube behind it. The kenko tube enlarges the picture without using a teleconverter.

I looked them up in my book and the map shows them as in this area for the summer. Other than that, I know nothing about these birds having never seen one before. I can't believe how unaware I have been of the birds around me for most of my life. :)
