I assume these guys are just passing through. My book shows them summering in the Arctic circle of Canada so I feel lucky I even saw this guy. He hides low in the bushes and scratches around on the ground for bugs and seeds.

When he first flew in, he was tuckered out and just rested for an hour or so...

Eventually he took some interest in his surroundings and started eating seeds from my ground feeders...

Nice shots Mitch. You certainly get a good variety of birds, in your neck of the woods :D

Thanks Kevin. I live right on the Mississippi River Flyway which funnels a good portion of the birds that migrate from Canada in the fall to the South, and back again in the spring. Plus all the birds that stay here through the winter. So it's a very target rich environment here. We get them coming and going. :D

Some nice captures Mitch with the last one being my favourite for the pose and sharpness. I almost never see these guys in trees...always on the ground.

A very cool sparrow and I have seen and photographed one several times this week. I have not yet seen one in my yard but that will hopefully change in the next few days.

Gary Fairhead C/C welcome .....

Thanks Gary. I'd say to keep looking. If they are here, they aren't far away from you. :)

I've been sitting at my window blind all day and watching these guys. They hang out in the tall grass and I've seen them grab the puff ball old dandylion heads for the seeds. Very hard to see them in the grass though. :)

I've got two or three around here myself...
I think they are cool, friendly little buggers.
Here is a picture of mine.

Nice shots Mitch, even better if they're a rare catch. Love the last shot. :)

I really like the last one. These are indeed friendly birds. I have shots of only one, but it hopped up on a log right next to me and let me take quite a few exposures before it got bored. Great job.

Thanks jamie, Phil and PK. Jamie, very nice shot. PK, since they just showed up today, they are staying low in the bushes. One has almost fallen off his branch cause he fell asleep. Hopefully they will be here a few days and I can get some shots of them out in the open. :)

Thanks Jason. I am continually being surprised by what shows up in my yard. I guess they find it safe here and the word has spread. :)
