This is a loud-mouthed warbler that's far more often heard than seen. I happened upon this very cooperative bird at a local park. It was so much fun watching him. They walk rather than hop and this one was completely unconcerned by my presence. I've never been so close to one. At one point, he caught a worm and landed 2' from me. I thought he was going to sit in my lap! What a fun bird. All shots handheld without flash in pretty heavy shade (except the last one).

Nice shots Bob. I haven't seen one here yet, but now I know what to look for. About how big is he?

Thanks Mitch. The books say 5" and that's about right, but when they approach closely, they seem much smaller. Listen to it here (external link), they are very loud and unmistakable!

Hey, thanks Joayne! Oh yeah, they call it an Ovenbird because their nests resemble Dutch ovens, a dome shaped nest with an opening in the front and the top covered.

Very nice series. They haven't shown up here yet.Probably in the next week and then I will hear them all summer long as they nest on my property. Thanks for sharing.

Great shots, Bob! I hadn't even heard of this bird until someone posted one a week or so ago.
