After looking through dozens of shots of sandpipers and their relatives, I feel like I've been on a snipe hunt. Any help in ID'ing it would be appreciated.
Saw this little bird at the river park Friday.

May 06, 2007 05:56 | #5 Thanks, Bob, Gary and George for the comments and ID. From what I read this must be the breeding plumage. It did typically bob its tail as it walked. Perhaps this is the female, and the male is guarding a nest. Gary Fairhead wrote in post #3158430 First image works for me and this species is pretty skitish in my experience. I wouldn't have recognized the spotted sandpiper with the spots. All mine have clean white breasts. They do have that peculiar mode of walking with a teetering action of their body. At least at the seashore they haven't been too difficult to approach. Dennis
