I have been a bit bored with the wildlife/bird stuff for the last month or so. As a result haven't been shooting but went out yesterday and spent a day of chasing little creatures with the cameras having a great time. So maybe I will be sharing a bit more often (again).

Nice captures. Good composition, exposure, detail, and background.

Great shots, I have never seen this species. Your exposure and composition are perfect.

Beautiful images, Brad. Great composition on both shots. A species that I have never seen here on the island.

Thanks folks it is appreciated!

It is my understanding that this species is quite common across most of the states but I hadn't even seen one before a couple years ago when I went south to the Columbia River area. Still haven't ever seen them much north of Vancouver, Wa. Beautiful birds but they have some of the strangest set of calls, one of which sounds like tearing sheet metal, have to hear it to believe it.

Here is a 3rd image, I like the pose but not sure it meets the same level of quality as the ones above, primarily due to shadowed lighting and change in the background.

All three are excellent shots Brad. My books say they are common all over, but I have never seen one anywhere. Except in pictures and yours are the best I've seen.

Very nice Brad. The details and color are beautiful. Mind sharing where you were when you shot these photos?

Hey AJ, really need to get back and visit your site some more.

These were shot at Ridgefield NWR in the River S unit (auto tour route). Which is open to foot traffic now (May 1 to Sept 1 or 30th I forget). With over 35,000 miles last year alone chasing wildlife shots still one of most "target" rich enviornments I have found. Wonderful place.

And thanks again everyone!

Wow-beautiful shots, all three! This is a new bird to me also and beautiful! You did well on the black exposure.

These are fantastic shots. Very interesting color on this particular species. I've never come across it. Keep those pics coming!

I am going to get to RNWR some day. Each time someone goes there and I see the images, it reminds me of why I need to get there.
