I have no experience using that function but is it possible that is lens and/or camera specific?

Or the same with ratings or flags.

Don't get this, the caption metadata isn't syncing with all files, the reason I need it to sync with all files is that I want to caption all, or more than one file with the same caption so I can file this up quicker to the agency I contribute to

I just tested it in LR5.7 and it worked fine. Which method are you using to sync the metadata and what exactly happens when you try?

The two methods I tested that both worked were...
1. Select a file > Edit the metadata > select another file > click Sync Metadata button.
A pop up window is displayed and you tick the box for the type of metadata you want to sync - in the case of Captions you tick the Basic Info box.

2. Select all the files you want to sync > Edit the Caption.
When you hit return a pop up appears asking if you want to "Apply the metadata change to all of the selected photos"
Press the Apply to selected photos button.

Thank you, LR6 had sync turned off by default

Edit: Not that, it was I had to select what IPTC and other details I wanted to sync, anyway, thanks I get it now

I did some reading on migrating & the main thing covered was creating backups. What all is saved when performing a back up when closing Lightroom?

The LR database, nothing else.

EOS 6d, 7dMKII, Tokina 11-16, Tokina 16-28, Sigma 70-200mm F/2.8, Sigma 17-50 F/2.8, Canon 24-70mm F/2.8L, Canon 70-200 F/2.8L, Mixed Speedlites and other stuff.

When it ceases to be fun, it will be time to walk away

You may need to back up when migrating to a new machine but when updating LR there isn't any need. All your LR 5 stuff will stay where it is. All that happens is that LR6 will read your LR5 catalog and create a LR6 catalog to use in its place, with all your old edits included. Once you have confirmed that it is working properly you can uninstall LR5.

On the subject of backups - the LR backup just backs up the catalog (the list of edits). It does not back up your RAW files/pictures. In addition the catalog backup just goes into a /backup folder in the same folder as your main LR catalog - which isn't much use if your drive fails.

You should really have a backup workflow in place for all the data on your computer, whereby it gets backed up to at least one external drive (more than one is better). Storing a copy off site is the best option of all.

Hello
I will go over to the tablet soon. I have lightroom plane and trying to use it as much as I can. Now the problem. We say that I go out and photograph and will now put myself in the situation where the tablet is my only option. I shoot in RAW and import the images from the camera to my tablet. I can edit and everything:

- "But how can I get the images out of Lightroom mobile to tablet image stream?"
- "What is best, allowing the tablet to convert to jpg from raw or shoot directly in jpg?"
- "How do I get the best quality pictures when the iPad can not edit RAW files?

I will publish on the weebly portal and you will only ipad / iphones image stream and not lightroom. What is the best solution?

I don't have any experience with using a tablet with Lightroom. There may be differences, but it should be quite similar to Lightroom for a desktop.

Shoot RAW. There are just too many advantages. The only reasons to shoot JPEG are speed to publish and lack of storage. Storage may be a problem with your tablet, but there should be some way to store images externally even when using a mobile device.

Someone else may be able to explain this much better, but the way to get the images to your Weebly site would be to export the images from Lightroom to the "Hard Drive" as JPEGs. Then go to your Weebly "Dashboard" and upload the images you wish to put on your site from the folder that Lightroom exported the images to.

Anyone using PSE (Photoshop Elements) in conjunction with LR? I would like to play around with night photography & layers. There are times when I can not dial the exposure when shooting streets at night with street lamps. I'm thinking layering 2 images would fix this.

Anyone have experience with this type of photography / editing?

Thank you.

Sorry I'm not sure I understand exactly what you are seeking to do. What do you mean "you can't dial the exposure"?

Lightroom and PSE work well together, I'm just not sure what it is you want to do so not sure if PSE is what you need.

When shooting at night with street lamps the exposure is either good with the lamps, rest of the photo underexposed or the rest of the photo is good and the street lamps are blown out. I was thinking layers with the 2 different exposures would be a solution.

What is the typical workflow with RAW files, LR, and PSE? Is there a plugin to allow the programs to work together?

Thank you.

If you want to blend two different exposures you are better off using something like Photomatix Pro as it automates the process. Doing it with PSE is possible but you have to use layer masks and manually brush over the areas you want shown/hidden.
