Baltimore Oriole

We (my wife and I) went out with our local Audubon Society this morning and did a bit of bird watching. After the past couple of times out, it became clear that bird watching and bird photography aren't necessarily compatible so I left the camera behind this time. We saw many interesting birds including many Orioles.

So when I told my wife I was going out this evening with camera, she told me not to come back until I had some Oriole photos. Fortunately (for me ), I was able to find an Oriole who was willing to do a bit of posing for me. Here are what I think are the best of the images - cropped, very lightly processed and resized for POTN. And yes, there are flowers again!

Ahhhhh, I can't tell you how envious I am! I love orioles and see them often, but can never get a low angle and a catchlight in the eye like yours. These are spectacular, sharp, and colorful.

I am really, really pleased with how the images turned out particularly since, as I said, I went out last evening specifically in search of the Oriole. Usually things don't work out quite as well.

But I am not sure if I am more pleased with the images or with the feedback I've been receiving on these images. All the honest feedback and criticisms that I have been receiving related to other images I have posted here on POTN have helped me a lot. And when it all comes together, I feel good. The response is icing on the cake.

All the Orioles that we saw while birding in the morning were way up in the tops of very tall trees where a camera would have done no good. So I really lucked out in finding this Oriole in such a picturesque tree setting and so much closer to eye level and willing to pose for about 20 images.

So again, thanks for the positive feedback on these Baltimore Oriole images and thanks for all the feedback on my other postings as well which are helping me to get better as a photographer!
