24" TFT for colour pro's, please recommend

Hi Guys,

I'm hopefully getting a 24" screen if not two 20" screens for my graphic work. I need something that has good controls of brightness/contrast, not to mention accurate colour reproduction.

Currently looking at the Samsung SM-245B 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Glossy Black, is there any good? or is it geared more for games

- Occasional film/games might be used, but 99% will be for graphic work, im talking photoshop/lightroom photo editing.

If you truly care about color accuracy, you need to get an LCD with an S-IPS panel.

TFT panels are good for gaming as they have quick refresh rates, but are only 6 bit. They use "dithering" to simulate true 8-bit color. IPS panels are true 8-bit panels.

Now, there aren't many LCDs that use S-IPS, and they are quite expensive. I believe in the 20" range NEC makes some good S-IPS panels. As far as 24" panels, I am not too sure.

yeah I've read about using IPS panels, I also hear about this "gamot" thing, or something along those lines, whatever that is

We use dual CG19 monitors for our editing stations.

Gamut is a single word for Colour Range, Ed.

I dont think currently, and I've said this on the phone, that spending a grand on a monitor will improve your photography. I think there's beter ways to invest a grand in improving your pictures.
