The weather just isn't cooperating, again. Five days of dark cloudy weather. No rain, but it looked like it could any minute, so I didn't want to take the camera out. These are all shot from my window into the side yard over about an hours time.

Thanks Jason. I have more Goldfinces around now than sparrows. There seem to be 3 different kinds, all the same breed, but there are the females, then two kinds of male and I don't know for sure what exactly the distinction is.

Here's what I think is the breeding male, and he is really yellow...

Yup, they seem to prefer the Niger seeds, but they will eat other smaller seeds like Milo and the generic birdseed mixes. I haven't seen them eat a sunflower seed yet though.

Nice one David. Mine seem to have accepted me already, although my window is open and I have to move slowly. :)

How'd you get that cardinal to pose like that?
Aren't you the guy that is like a bird whisperer? Seems I remember a while back reading posts from you about birds being drawn to you ... or some such thing- maybe that was someone else.

Thanks Longjohns. Yup, that's me. :)

The cardinal is a regular. The silly bird is very skittish now that spring is here, while all winter he didn't mind me in the window. But, as you can see part of the seed feeder in this picture, he was sneaking up on the seeds while keeping a lookout for me. He could hear the clicking of the shutter though.

Thanks Nige. I've been experimenting with slow shutter speeds and the Bigma with a Kenko tube behind it. I'm really liking what I see. Some of these are shot as slow as 1/50sec. :)

Nice set Mitch;

Could your Female House Sparrow really be a Female Rose-Breasted Grosbeak?

Thanks Ted. I don't think so, too small. The Rose Breasted Grosbeaks that were here last week were twice or more the size of this bird and this particular bird has been here several weeks. Maybe all winter. It could be a different species though. My books are just so wishy washy with the pictures and descriptions they are almost useless for ID'ing.

Thanks Gary. Been trying new things. :)

Ted, me too buddy. I had two Grosbeaks come through late last week. They chowed down at the feeders for a half hour, then left and haven't been back, unless it's been real early in the am. The two I saw were both males though. But, they are supposed to be all through here all summer, so I'm hoping for more shots. Here's the pics of one.
