London's Hyde Park is home of a slightly bizarre spot known as Speaker's Corner which was designated my parliament as a place for public oratory in the late 1800s. It attracts some, shall we say, 'interesting' people, and is a great place to find some great shots. I'm very new to all this, and whilst I see a lot of potential, I don't think any of my shots really make the most of the place. Constructive criticism would be very welcome!

You can see my full set on Flickr here: http://www.flickr.com …s/sets/72157600183202463/ (external link)

Here are some of the better ones:

I know that they're not great, but if anybody has any ideas what I could do differently (or any helpful photoshop/crop ideas - particularly for the ones in the set that I didn't include on this page), then I'd really appreciate it!

Hi Andy...

Welcome to the forum.

I've driven past Speakers Corner many times but never actually stopped to see all the commotion.

I can see the challenge faced when you're there trying to photograph things. There seems to be a lot of emotion and people of varying characters. Some of the facial expressions you've captured are good and each seems to tell its own story, but if I was going to be critical you need you watch at what angle you're telling your story from.

The 2nd picture above may have been slightly better had you moved to the side a little to get a idea of what this man was doing.. and the third picture has me looking around for something to grab my attention. Perhaps if he turned to face you and you caught him looking at you between the shoulders of the guys in front of you it would be a different story.

I know the area can get very congested and movement will be limited but I'm sure when you go back again you'll look at it in a different light.

Who knows.. might even catch me there with my camera next time :)

My Canon can.. I just need to find out how

Hi Andy, welcome to the forum! The first one is by far the best here. The other two do not show the speakers' faces, in fact the third one you can't even tell what's going on. The first one has some emotion in it. I think it would have more impact if you shot it from lower down. Keep trying!

Mark.

Thanks for the thoughts, guys! I have several other shots of the guy in the second photo, but I was too lazy to get my polarizing filter out and most of the ones where he's facing you have a lot of glare off his glasses.

I had a browse through some other people's Speaker's Corner photos on Flickr, and most of them do use some fairly crazy camera angles. I think that's definitely something for me to explore.
