I had a dispute as a buyer.
After SquareTrade failed to reach a resolution (BTW, SquareTrade is pretty useless) PayPal hooked me up. The seller never responded to any of my requests for a resolution. So I got my money back from PayPal.

cjm,

I think you need to hold out. Do not give into the buyer. I had a dispute a year back where I bought something and never recieved it. While researching my actions, I found that PayPal will largely only give refunds if the seller cannot prove that the items was shipped and recieved by the buyer. If the seller can prove it was recieved (usually by a tracking number), then the seller is pretty much covered. Do not give in. You can prove that he received the items, and you stated the condition of the money in the auction, and fulfilled your part of the deal. I don't think PayPal will refund the money to the buyer.

paypal WILL NOT take funds from your personal bank account.

They once tried to access my account twice for the same transaction. I don't use them any more.

Well I made the offer mainly because I think that this buyer is the kind of buyer that if he doesnt get his way with PayPal that he will initiate an illegal CC chargeback which paypal will hook on me. So it is easier for me to get the notes back and resell them to someone who knows what they are buying. But I tell you this, with a new auction Iwill be taking about 20 pictures and putting them in the auction. And will word it so no buyer will have any right to even claim they didnt get what they were expecting. This pisses me off so much. First time in probably 3000 to 4000 transactions on eBay/PayPal.

Amen Hallelujah! The buyer decided to drop the complaint! First he decided to send back half the notes and I'd give him a $200 partial refund, just now he closed the dispute and decided to keep them all! :) Boy am, I happy this worked out good. Yippy!

Wait till the 89th day and neg his ass for good measure. Hell, do it anyway - even if you get a retaliatory neg you can respond to it factually and calmly and everyone can see what kind of person left it. He deserves one for messing you about and causing all this aggravation.

It is important to use the ebay feedback system even at the cost of a retaliation, otherwise all that positive feedback means nothing.

I am not going to do that for this misunderstanding. He withdrew the dispute after 24 hours and decided to let bye gones be bye gones and keep the item in its whole.

Besides I know for a certain fact that eBay changed the 90 day rule. They changed it to a 90ish days to leave feedback because years ago to prevent this very sort of thing from happening. Besides if I am to leave a negative feedback for anyone I will just leave one. If they leave me one, we can always mutally withdraw the complaint. A mutual complaint still looks as bad as a negative except it isnt counted.

I have never signed up for or used Paypal but I want to be able to buy and sell second-hand stuff and it seems to be the method of choice unless you know and trust the other party.

I've had a look at the Paypal site and it looks straightforward, but I have learned quite a bit more from reading this thread.

Can I ask a few questions?

Do I have to link my Paypal account to my main bank account (the one my salary goes into) or my credit card account?
If both bank account or credit card account are possible, which is best?
Is it possible (and would it be safer) to open a separate bank account to use just for Paypal?

  1. Set yourself up a bank account JUST for PayPal. You need to connect a bank account to become Verified and to withdraw your funds.
  2. A credit card isn't necessary as a seller. As a buyer it isn't needed either, unless you don't have sufficient funds in your PayPal account to cover a purchase. It then can pull from your credit card and/or bank, depending which you have on file. If both, you can choose which is pulled from first. Adding a credit card will also Confirm your address so that your sellers are more comfortable selling to you since they'd be protected more than they would had they shipped to you as an Unconfirmed Address.
  3. See #1.

Mike, I have had over 500 transactions both ways as a seller and a buyer. This is the first time I ever had a problem.

#1 thing I can think of if you have both a bank account attached and a Credit Card, is make sure you remember to check the source or the payment you are making. Usually the Bank Account is the default and I despise using that method because my protection is minimal. Use a Credit Card when ever possible, that way you have more options if something goes wrong.
