i ordered xti body only along with a 50mm f1.4 and 4gb extreme III memory.

my previous camera was a nikon d80 and it seems like a downgrade but im curious to see why everyone seems to like canon.

please dont tell me i shouldve got the 30d. i dont really care for the 5fps bursts nor the high 3200 iso.

what do you think?

You made the rrrriiiiiggg............aah. I just can't do it. Coming from the D80, I think you will be dissatisfied. The XTi is small, and doesn't feel as good in the hands as the D80. I think you might be happier with the 30D. The XTi is a great camera, but the ergonomics of the 30D better match the feel of the D80 IMO

If its not the ISO 3200 or the 5 fps, then it has to be the feel of it. If you dont like the feel of the XTi, then I too think you will be dissatisfied with the XTi. I didnt like the smallness of my XT and the feel of the XTi so I upgraded to the 30D, but mostly I did it cuz I shoot sports...

What all did you get rid of? Doesn't matter. Aside from Nikon's auto WB being somewhat better (of course that's on auto) you made a good choice.

Not sure what it is you're looking for. Don't know what you had, don't know why you switched, but it's good to have another convert!

The size will take some time to get used to - and the new control and menu interface, but once you start downloading photos I think that you will be happy with your decision.

I won't comment on the camera body or flash, but that lens you got yourself - the 50mm f/1.4 - it's a fine instrument. You'll love it!

If the small size does turn out to be a big deal, you can always purchase the Xti grip.

I think the only downside of all this is the build and feel of the D80...the Xti must feel a little flimsy compared to the D80.

Otherwise the Xti is a fine body (pretty much inline with the 30D IQ wise minus some niceties), the 50mm 1.4 is a very nice lens, and 4GB is a lot of memory!

You don't care about the 5fps and the 3200 ISO...so that's fine.

I wouldn't say you made the "right" choice, b/c that implies the D80 isn't a good choice. I think you made a "different" choice, and a "good" choice within the Canon line.

thanks for the input guys. im not sure about the feel of the grip but considering the fact i have small hands, i hope it will be okay for me.

reason why i switched bc the xti, 50mm, 4gb memory, and also a tripod was equivalent to the amount of a nikon d80 with kit lens. best bang for bucks if you know what i mean.

Ok, you TOLD us to tell you that you made the right decision and NOT to tell you that you should have bought the 30D.

You made the right decision and you shouldn't have bought the 30D.

You'll have to repost if you want an honest answer.

I had the XTi for a few months. It was small, but I really didn't notice it that much. I put a grip on and it felt a lot better. I had the grip on for a few months when a buddy got an XTi. It looked and felt like a toy w/o the grip on it.

Get a battery grip. There are a few to choose from other than the Canon brand for about 70 bucks.

In my opinion..
wrong decision, the feel of the 350D/XT is a major difference..I now have the 5D and that feels like a massive difference, but the 30D will be noticeable..best thing to do, forget you never saw or discussed anything about a 30D :) and just shoot photos.
If you have bought it, then it ain't a bad choice, it only gets bad if you compare.
