hummers of the season

the rufus have moved on up north for the summer but i did get some pretty nice shots while they were in town. we'll see them again in a few months on their way back down. we will also be sing the allen's as they take this route during the fall.

the blackchin have just started showing up so its a case of one breed leaves and others take their place.

i 've got some decent bc female shots but with the male it is hard to get his gorget(throat) color to show as the light has to be just right. but he is next on my list.;) ;)

for your enjoyment!

Really nice series. The caliope male is very interesting and very well captured.

Very nice Terry. Haven't seen a hummer in years. I miss them.

Nice series, I spotted a rufus a couple weeks ago but haven't seen it at the feeder. I usually only see the red throated "annas" here in CA. Can't wait to get a shot of the rufus if it comes around the feeder.

Nice series Terry. Gotta love those hummers.

I don't know where Butte Sink is but we hope to see a variety of hummers when we visit California this summer. We'll be spending a week along the central coast headquartered in Monterey and then move inland to Yosemite. I remember in the past seeing many hummers down around the Carmel Mission.

Here in PA, we get just one variety of Hummingbird.

you are coming at the right time for monterey and hummer shots but not the best for yosemite. if you don't get in before memorial day i hope you like traffic;)

the butte sink is 70 miles n of sacto.

all of these were taken at my house. i have 250-300 a day in the july-august peak.

april and august are the best hummer months as the migration is on.

you should still see plenty if you get where they are drawing them as opposed to waiting for a flyby.

you will be in two of the most beautiful areas of the world and even on a bad day your photo opps should abound.

enjoy!
