24-105/4L IS focusing ring question

Question for you 24-105/4L IS users out there.

How do you find your focusing ring? How do you find it compared to other L zoom lenses?

I notice that mine is noticeably looser than my 17-40/4L and 70-200/4L IS. It isn't a drastic change but I can definitely notice a difference. It's still damp, it just feels a little loose. For instance, if I move the focus ring clockwise, stop, and move it counter clockwise there's a tiny little amount of movement where the focus ring moves slightly before the lens starts to actually focus along with the focus ring (I hope that made sense). I don't get this with my other two L zooms.

Is this a known characteristic of the 24-105/4L IS? Do other people notice that the focusing ring has just a little more play than other L zooms? Or am I just being too anal?

Mine gets loose towards the end, and is a lot tighter at the wide end. I live with it.

Anke, are you talking about the focus ring or the zoom ring?

Mine seems fine. Not loose at all, same as my 70-200L

Mine is fine as well. Its not as tight as the zoom ring, but I wouldn't want it to be either. Its nice and smooth and makes tweaking the focus a breeze without being so loose you hunt for the focus.

Same for me as well.
