This past weekend, the City of Portland had a fireworks display during the Cinco de Mayo celebration. These photos were taken with my 1D/17-35 f/2.8L combo @ 35mm on a tripod. Mode=Tv priority, Tv=4 sec., Av=f/6.3, ISO=200.

I snapped these photos from a friend's 10th floor condo. What a view it is...

Nice pics. I was in Portland last weekend, but I guess I missed the fireworks. I was at PIR.

Thanks! Were you racing around or shooting photos of racers?

I was shooting last weekend. I'm usually racing, but I'm taking the first part of the season off. I'll start back up again in mid-June.

Here's a few posts with photos.

Both are great WA shots. Also, an excellent example of what the 1DMkI can do at night since I'm thinking of getting one as a back-up. Thanks for sharing!

Nice photos! I love the amber tones in it, set off by the brightness of the tops of the buildings and fireworks.

...But still the clever north wind was not satisfied. It spoke to her of towns yet to be visited, friends yet to be discovered...

These are wondrous shots, well composed, exposed and timed. That 1D is still a great performer, thanks for sharing.

I think the 1D can do well in low light as long as you keep it below ISO800. IMO ISO1600 is terrible and ISO3200 is a total waste of time.

Thanks everybody for the great comments! It's not often (read "like never") that I get a chance to shoot fireworks. When I our friend invited us over and said there was to be a fireworks display, I immediately came to the forum to search for fireworks camera settings. I found that there are many different ideas, but the research gave me a place to start. POTN is a great place to learn and show off the results! I shot over 50 photos from the 30min show...not all came out, but I learned it all comes down to timing.

I have to shoot an event tonight with fireworks so doing some research, your posts are fantastic because I can see your settings. I use a 20D though, wish I could get the 1D Mk II. I am going to use the settings from your Portland shoot. Cheers.
