Male Red-wing Blackbird!

I realise that many RWBB have been posted lately but I got lucky last evening at one of the local nature areas. I ran into CanondslrUser and we were photographing a Green Heron just as the sun was setting. The pond was completely in the shade so we were forced to use Fill Flash.

This male decided to do a display just feet from the Heron and I was at the right angle at the right time. It's position reminded me of a Delta Bomber.

Bigma on Monopod with Fill Flash. ISO 800. :(
Vertical shot (~40% of full frame) cropped from a horizon shot.

Wings opening up.

Full Delta!!!

Those are both excellent! Nice composition, and perfect exposures.

I particularly like the first image. It looks a bit stealth bomber-ish!

Good job, Stephen.

Amazing shots Stephen. They are such beautiful birds. And I've got a pair coming to my yard from the abandoned farm behind the house. Always nice to see them. :)

That's a very original pose - surprising choice for a perch on his part! Nice shots

Tanks Ed. I actually was thinking of a Stealth Bomber but I typed Delta Wing!?!

Mitch and George I appreciate your comments.

Thanks Ted. Yes I did get shots of the Green Heron in the open including a series of shots Pre-strike, Strike (head under water) and Post. :D

They were taken at 800 ISO so they're a bit grainy but I'll likely post some soon.

Ed, thank you for taking the time to comment.

Thank you Glenn, Bea, JP, Gary and Chris for your kind words.

Glenn and Bea I thought about cleaning things up with Neat Image but my demo version smooths out the foreground as well and I wanted to maintain the detail in the feathers. I know that others have better PP skills and could have improved the shots.
