Well...something a bit different from me...actual stage lighting. Okay, so I was still shooting at ISO1600 (can't break the habit), but I was doing it with triple digit shutter speeds! My main problem was mic stands (they had 9 mic stands at the front of the stage at one point for no more than 4 performers), so some of my comps are a little weird looking. In hindsight I think I should have thought more about better comps and less about avoiding mic stands, as they can sometimes be cloned out.

The majority of these are with the 100/2. I'd appreciate any comments, esp on the pp/skin tones. Oh I've been using the custom filter for sharpening, and I think I do prefer it to USM...thanks Rene' and Dwight.

Anyway...

1. (Seth Bernard) I always wanted to do a shot like this, so well I did it

2. (Daisy May) Tuning...tuning

3. Oh yeah, that dang stool was messing with me too.

4. This one is to prove that my camera wasn't stuck in landscape mode all night.

5. Guitar solo!

8. (Laura Bates)...not sure what caused me to cut off her hand

agreed, the stage lighting looks great! nice colors and it's balanced very nicely.

for 5, i think you could have cloned out the mic stand (vocals; left the gtr mic as is).

8 seems a bit lopsided to the left, would prefer a bit room that side. 6 is very nice, but i would crop the hair from the far right.

otherwise, they look really good. i like the blue screens in the back of 3.

Thanks, I agree with your thoughts. I think I'll give your suggestions a try when I get home this evening. I actually didn't even notice the hair in 6 until I posted it. As for 8, that was just a miss on my part. She was turned 90 deg to me, and when she turned briefly so I could see her face, I didn't follow.

These are superb! I have huge mixed feelings about cloning and big adjustments for a huge variety of reasons but these are fine as is I think. Would have been nice to have a bit more variety of lighting or effects but that just doesn't happen for every band.

BTW, I really like your avatar.

I know what you mean about cloning. I generally try to keep it to a minimum (I did a small bit of cloning in 1 and 2 for instance).

This venue is primarily a church (but they do concerts on Monday nights), so the lighting never gets too wild. I have a few shots with interesting backgrounds/colors thanks to the video screens. I may have to process some of those.

here is one that I thought was interesting:

Oh, and thanks about the avatar. I am officially a vinyl geek, err I mean, a true audiophile...

Ooooo, Aaaaah, nifty background!

My vinyl is packed up with what's left of my audio equipment ... I'm a semi-audiophile and want to get a rack for my studio and get some sounds going but I haven't had time. Maybe I'll get advice from you when I get to it, like what brand of wall mount speakers to review.

Hehe, you don't want to get me started! At home I have Paradigm Reference Studio 40's, which are pretty nice and affordable mid-fi speakers...but they are pretty large (they actually call the things bookshelf speakers...yeah right). I don't know much about wall mount/in-wall speakers, but for small bookshelf speakers, I'm definitely partial to these (external link). Also, I've not heard them, but Magnepan MMGW's might be worth looking into.
