I took a short walk this morning and saw a bushtit struggling in a spider
web. At first I thought it was trying to get the spider to eat and got
tangled in the web. But the more I watched the more it looked like it
was collecting the web, probably for it's nest. These were taken with
the 350D and 400 f5.6L.

1 Grab the web

2 Pull real hard

3 Spin upside down

4 Still struggling

5 Must not surrender

6 Reposition

7 Victory!

Great series! The web looks more like fishing line than silk - I'd hate to see the spider

Excellent series George. Too thin to be fishline and you can see an orb weavers web to the far left of the pictures. Looks like someones hair. :)

They are great pictures. As said above, would hate to meet that spider.. Looks like the Bushtit really had to fight to get it :)

Thanks all for your comments. The Bushtit is a very small bird, about 3 inches,
and the spider is pretty large. Here's a shot of one I took in my front yard a couple
of years ago. It's about 2-2.5 inches....

Very cool behavior series that gaver me a good chuckle..and i have seen warblers do the same thing with spider web...As for fishing line, last year I witnessed and photographed a Baltimore Oriole using fishing line to wrap and tie down her nest so I guess its whatever is available..:D
