japanese instrumental band MONO played to a pretty full house last month, less than 8 months after being in the support slot at the same venue. known for glacial epics which eventually turn to frenzied peaks, they mine the same land as mogwai, godspeed you black emperor, explosions in the sky, and others. fellow countryman world end's girlfriend opened up, though they didn't play any of the collaborations they've recorded together and released.

gear used for these photos was 30D, sigma 30 (4 and 6), canon 70-200 IS f/2.8 (3, 8 [taken @ 1/50th, wide open at ISO 3200!]), canon 50 (1) and canon 85 (the rest). i also shot w/ my 17-55 but didn't use any of those photos in this thread.

C+C if you feel moved.

ISO 3200 looks just fine...at 1/40th though, it's really pushing the limits... That's what I hope to avoid...but it's inevitable...f/2.8 isn't so hot for low light venues... You did the best you could and it looks real good...

These are nice...again, another amazing band. My favorites are 1,2,6,7. You really can't go wrong with a Japanese chick and a bass guitar...it looks like she's wearing boots too!;) That stool or whatever is a little annoying in 6, but I still love the pose and composition. 7 is the classic narlus shot, I may have cropped just a little closer on the left and top though.

Now that's what I'm talkin' about!

These are truly delicious! Every one has something really powerful to convey, Narlus.

While it's not a chick, I like #3 best.
The chick, while nice, looks a bit blurry in both shots.
I agree the bar stool is annoying.
Nice action.

Oh, man, is this one of those foreign weirdo bands with metrosexuals and blurry genders? Drives me nuts (although I hardily approve!) when I can't tell the boys from the girls ... are you sure that's not an Asian Chick?

thanks all. the 'bar stool' is actually the guitar player's seat. he played seated for a good amount of time, but stood up to rock out on occasion. i had no free licence to get on stage and move his stool out of the way. though i would have liked to :D
