Hi folks,

Hopefuly someone can help.

My 1D2n has suddenly decided to stop working. It turns on, it displays shots already taken, it meters it looks like it works but then when you look through the viewfinder it is just dark (ie no green text around edges)

When I try to take a shot the AF and IS doesn't kick in and when fully pressing the shutter release nothing happens. If I switch the focus to MF and try to take a shot then the top screen shows error 99.

I have tried different batteries, different lenses and tried both shutter buttons with the same problems. I have tried all my lenses on the 10D and they are fine so the problem is definitely the 1D2n. I have removed the battery and left it for 10 mnutes but I cant get the date/time battery out as the screw is too small.

Anyone have any ideas before it goes to Canon?

Thanks

Neil

Send it to Canon, hopefully 1 series gets priority.

how many shots have you taken, sounds like shutter assembly might be going bad

I haven't had mine die yet, but I'm looking forward it. That means I've put a lot of miles on it and got my money's worth!

Seriously, just send it back to Canon for service and I'm sure they can diagnose the issue and patch her up.

5421 so definitely not the shutter or at least it shouldn't be. I posted the same thing on dpreview and someone had the same problem and had the AF circuitry replaced. Canon are going to love me. I only got my 300f4 back from them last week!!

Thanks for the help guys

Hmmm... I wonder if fixing the AF circuitry will fix the communication problem between my 50L and 1D2N.

Good luck to you, brother. Let us know if it works out.

Well I now have my camera back. Posted it on Monday, got it back today. I knew becoming a CPS member was a good thing to do.

It has had a new power unit fitted whatever that means. The only annoying thing is now my file numbers are 100-83xx instead of the 100-54xx that they were.

Good to hear it's fixed.

If you have one of the 54xx images, you could try this: Reset your counter. Copy that image from the computer on an erased card (in the appropriate folder). Insert card in camera. Take a picture.

IIRC, this will set the counter to 54xx+1 ;)
