Someone told me "remember Che Guevarra" and told me the story about the classic picture of Che.

That was one reason to stop deleting images.

Anotherone I just discovered working in Lightroom using custom whitebalance and going through my pictures of Styx last week.

The original comes first.

IMAGE: http://www.shesgotthepic.com/styx/gowanoriginal_marked.jpg

Then I upped the luminance on blue, grabbed the picker, clicked at the whitest spot I found and the result is the second image.

I've got loads of images like that, pin sharp that I've grayscaled as they were crap in color. I really need to spend a couple of days when I don't have a mild stubborn migraine rolling around in my head and just LEARN!

I sat and blinked thinking I was hallucinating. Even shook my head and stared at the screen. I want to run out and find books on Lightroom. Unfortunately I have a couple of very annoyed clients who are waiting for updates on their sites so have to deal with them first. But once that is done, I am diving straight back in to this.

I'm learning so much from this site and from musicphotoforums it's unbelivable. But the custom white balance trick was one learnt overhearing what that band manager was teaching my protege last week.

Got to write him a thank you e-mail.

The show was absolutely amazing! As in another stycx post of mine, I've waited almost 25 years to see these guys (and I also like Gowan's solo work) so it was a treat being able to watch the show from the pit.

No kidding, RAW files are so amazing. When I learn something new I always want to go back and apply it to my old images. I'm just beginning to get into blended exposures...

You can download a 30 da trial at adobe.com/downloads

Basically I upped exposure.

then i went in to color correction in lightroom and upped the luminance on blue to almost 100%, scrolled up to whitebalance, chose "custom" grabbed the little color picker and clicked at the whitest spot in the picture (think it was on his cheek) and presto - the second picture is the result.

Check your PMs ;-)a Coffee is on me.

At home today, though. The mild migraine is about to explode to a full blown version.

You can do this in just about any RAW converter. DPP will work, I prefer ACR (adobe camera raw). With the WB eye dropper tool you can also click on a white, black or grey point to set the white balance (but white usually gives best results). His collar (the non-blown part) would have worked well in this image. Also, often times the mic or mic cord will have a little white collar or sleeve that works great as a source point for setting WB (that's what I used in several of these photos). The key is to choose a source point that is receiving direct light from the main light source and is not blown. Set the WB before making exposure adjustments, as the WB will effect the highlights and may help bring back some otherwise overexposed color channels.

I got to photograph Styx last year, Lawrence is looking older, but they were a very fun band to photograph. Because of my media access, I was literally 4 feet from some of the speaker stacks, so earplugs were life savers, and you could see the image through the viewfinder literally shake with each beat of the drums.
One of my best concert experiences really, regardless of who they are/were, just how they were polite to the camera, and played with the photogs by posing the usual crazy stuff while doing solos, was a riot. (Biggest prick ever in concert was Mike Love, from the Beach Boys, he was dressed in an all Maui Attire - I guess they wish they all could be hawaiian girls- and kept making gestures and silly signs at me, I kid you not... bah, maybe I was too close to stage for his taste).

Sorry, Back to OP. I have never thrown a photo away completely, I still keep an archive with all the Masters (photogs as saved out of the mem cards) because you never know.

Impressive PP skills, or great Adobe Program. I am going to download Lightroom Trial right now, and see how it compares and complements with CS2.

Thanks for sharing, and great photo.

Oh yeah. And I think you've got me hooked on getting a billingham 445 now as well. Keeping an eye on them on ebay at the moment.

I just used up over 100 Gigs of memory on my external hard drive since January... I'm not a pro, and only shoot shows... There's about 136 Gigs left on the HD... I was thinking of trashing some pics...

But I know what you mean SHE, if there is potential to recover in the future, it's best to keep them all... So thanks for the reinforcing reminder...or I probably would be trashing pics soon...

Yes, same here regarding Styx... I was in the front row center, of the pit... got all the close ups I, and the camera could handle...

If only we wore the same black T shirts to all of our events, they would know who we are as a group...
