I just used up over 100 Gigs of memory on my external hard drive since January... I'm not a pro, and only shoot shows... There's about 136 Gigs left on the HD... I was thinking of trashing some pics...

But I know what you mean SHE, if there is potential to recover in the future, it's best to keep them all... So thanks for the reinforcing reminder...or I probably would be trashing pics soon...

Yes, same here regarding Styx... I was in the front row center, of the pit... got all the close ups I, and the camera could handle...

If only we wore the same black T shirts to all of our events, they would know who we are as a group...

I've tried to keep the majority of my photos, but after switching to the 1DMarkII I decided it was time to properly complete my 30D archive which covers June 2006-April 2007. I've ended up with 100GB which I have now have 3 duplicates made from - one gets stored off-site. My roommate played devils advocate one night and asked "are you ever really going to look at all of those photos again?" The answer doesn't have to be no, but the OP's photo is a perfect example - sometimes you don't see how great the image is until later on and it's much better to still have that photo than to be stuck without it. :)

Oh yeah. And I think you've got me hooked on getting a billingham 445 now as well. Keeping an eye on them on ebay at the moment.

She

Hehehe. Good girl ;)
Bet you don't find too many of them... Most get used, not sold.

Friend of mine tried my 335 a few months back, and decided to buy one after about a week. I was glad he found one fast, so I got mine back ;)

Got a couple of used 445 on my watch list right now. I think one might even be a 555 (or whatever)

Got a feeling the 335 is too small for carrying a macbook pro as well.

At the same time - i need more hard drive too...... I can always burn to DVD.

:D

No kidding, RAW files are so amazing. When I learn something new I always want to go back and apply it to my old images. I'm just beginning to get into blended exposures...

That's another thing I need to start looking at as well.

You can do this in just about any RAW converter. DPP will work, I prefer ACR (adobe camera raw). With the WB eye dropper tool you can also click on a white, black or grey point to set the white balance (but white usually gives best results). His collar (the non-blown part) would have worked well in this image. Also, often times the mic or mic cord will have a little white collar or sleeve that works great as a source point for setting WB (that's what I used in several of these photos). The key is to choose a source point that is receiving direct light from the main light source and is not blown. Set the WB before making exposure adjustments, as the WB will effect the highlights and may help bring back some otherwise overexposed color channels.

Nice tutorial. Thanks. I will try that way. The OP was a complete fluke. I had not expected that kind of result at all.

No way ... I'd have five terabytes of images if I kept them all! The most amazing thing about this thread to me was that I recognized that guy in the example image!

Really.... I just toss images if they are out of focus, or completely lame. Slightly lame ones get burned to DVD backups along with the good ones. I just got a call for an image of a player I shot 2 years ago, the center on a Div 2 football team. The shot I had was ordinary and boring - but there just weren't a lot out there of the chap. DVDs cost less then a buck. That and my very sophisticated shoe box filing system, it doesn't cost that much.... I just need to go buy more shoes.

Well, time has proven that the bag lasts longer then a few of my lenses ;)

The cost is not too high if you consider the lifespan ;)
(I've gone through quite a few bags before these)

I just got Lightroom. I also got a copy of Scott Kelby's book on Lightroom. But the book is a 400 page textbook on the program. So not having the time right now, to do anything but scan the book, I also got the tutorial on Lightroom, from Luminous Landscape. It's a little dry, but it gives good information. http://www.luminous-landscape.com …o&cPath=2&products_id=126 (external link)

aww the beauty of RAW's white balance ;)

@Pic: the sharpest point seems to be the microphone, not the face. you should try some USM to fix that.
if you have some more time, you could also use "lens blur" in PS (dunno what it's called in Lightroom though)

I can't imagine being reliant on DVD's as my only backup. I have four copies of all of the photos I keep, two on hard drives and two on DVD's, and I take one of each to an off-site location. I realized early on that my photos have a ton of personal value and I have made a concentrated effort to ensure that I can look at these photo when I am old...

4gb cards for £17. It ain't sandisk but apparently they're 133x speed.

I'm so far running on my 3 1gb and it works so far. Not enough to shoot raw for a full show but the first three songs, it'll do. Can squeeze just over 110 pics in raw on each.
