i believe so, but RTFM! ;)

if you shoot RAW, there's built-in bracketing via PP. i personally don't see the need for it.

Wow, those results are incredible. Can results like that only be achieved through shooting in RAW? Could it also be done while shooting in JPG?

Hi SHE... Couldn't tell who was in the original pic at all... Even though you said Styx, I couldn't tell... And even after the second pic appeared, I had to look several times to confirm the keyboard player... It's actually a pretty good pic of him... I find several pics like this, when adjusting the "Temperature" slider in Photoshop... Especially the red light temperatures... They seem to reveal lots of recoverable photos... But it's not always possible to find a hidden image under the "Reds"...

My roommate played devils advocate one night and asked "are you ever really going to look at all of those photos again?" The answer doesn't have to be no, but the OP's photo is a perfect example - sometimes you don't see how great the image is until later on and it's much better to still have that photo than to be stuck without it. :)

It really looks like only the totally out of focus and totally bad frame pics would get errased... Any pics with contrast issues ... marginal focus... especially under exposures.. should be retained... After all, it's only a little bit more memory...
I'll start downloading pics directly to DVD's... The entire show per disk should do it...

Eventually, a new HD will be in order anyway... You could always use two HD's and while one is connected, the second one could be worked on to "purge it"...
Or use a devoted external HD for the final selections and PP results... While the second external HD would be for "Gross" storage, and could be purged periodicaly...

Yes ... throwing in a 'F' when describing unpleasant things to do is common on the 'net! :-)

Contrary to what some may suggest (but given that you may miss the perfect timing unless you set your sequence correctly) bracketing even when shooting RAW appears very useful to me in this very difficult lighting genre of photography ... but remember that I also urge tripods! It's not that I am a huge perfectionist that I do all these things but rather that I am a mediocre photographer with access to incredible technology and when I use it I look ever so good even with no talent. My forte is that I am not lazy ... I NEVER look for the easy way but rather to 'best practices'. This is why I have moved to Canon, RAW, 'L' glass, Wimberley Head, etc. So far I have been able to hide my lack of ability behind a pile of expensive equipment.

I just discovered working in Lightroom using custom whitebalance and going through my pictures of Styx last week.

She, You results here are very impressive. Like the difference between Night & Day. (no Pun intended.)
Lightroom is sounding better by the minute.
Thanks for posting your results. :D

You are being very modest Dwight...You've not only shared your tested and proved expertise with us, but showed us the seasoned and truly successful "Collages", and exceptional close ups... And a tremendous variety of stage shots and wide angle combinations...

That's just to name a few... Composition is your forte... at the original point of picture acquisition and after some post processing, your work excells...Especially when it's done in just the very fist few songs...

Let's not kid ourselves... 40 years of experience truly shows...

Bruce, if you're gonna' buy LightRoom but don't have to have it right away I'd urge you to wait ... it has some issues that I expect will be addressed in the course of the next year. Buy another lens in the meantime.

Well, I was going through a few shots (different band, different stage) with similar lighting. Shot in jpeg and did not get the same result.

I'll try a few others before I conclude it is only in raw this can be done. However - sat with a university photography student today and showed him this and he did say that it is amazing how much you can recover shooting raw.
