Vista unsuitable for photography!

I just read an article in June 2007 Shutterbug magazine (pg. 62-66) stating that Vista was unsuitable for professional photograph editing. I find this an interesting assesment, don't you?

The reason Vista isn't usable is that when it (regularly!) pops up a security dialog box to authorize an action (every action, it seems), it dims the screen and DEACTIVATES MONITOR CALIBRATION! Why it does this is anyone's guess, some programmer did it and didn't tell anyone probably. In any case, the article's summation of the issue is "The effect of this is that it will interfere with editing or printing by making normal screen matching predictably impossible. .... As it stands, with this "bug", Vista as an operating system can't be recommended."

Wow - makes Macs look pretty good, yes?

And then you click "OK" in the dialog box, it disappears, and the screen undims. What's the big deal? Did this article contend that a single dialog box will permanently cancel any previous calibration once the dialog box is gone? I'd find that hard to believe.

So I guess those currently using Vista and liking it are wrong. Better tell them to switch to MAC.

That's EXACTLY what happens...any calibration profile you've set is lost until a reboot. And if the photo editor you're using causes a security dialog box to appear, you'll NEVER edit with a calibration profile. The article says it's a bug fix that will have to be put in a future release to be fixed.

I have Vista and a colorvision profile installed. No problems. The screen changes and stays set.

And you're getting this from an article in Shutterbug, not from personal experience. Sorry, but I don't believe it. Considering that PCs have what 90% of the market share, people use them for all kinds of things, and people often upgrade computers without upgrading monitors, it would be, frankly, retarted for Microsoft to put this into their system.

The article was probably written by someone at MAC

I'm using Vista Ultimate, CS3 and Lightroom, Oh and you can also disable Windows Defender from doing that if it bugs you. Got to say not done it whilst using Photo Editing software anyway >>>>>

What a load of Tosh........

It's actually a little over 95% in the states and 97% world wide.

After expressing my disgust at all the security dialog boxes to a friend of mine, I was told that you can change the settings on your computer to get rid of all those inane little "are you sure" questions. Once I figure out how to do it, I'll report back. :)

I looked through this issue of Shutterbug earlier today while I was at the store. Didn't buy it, but was curious about what it had to say about Vista.

I too will have to call horsesh!t on the article. I've been using Vista and Spyder2Pro and don't have an issue with losing my profile.

Just another verification of what I tell people ALL THE TIME about new MS Operating Systems. "Wait until SP1 or maybe SP2 comes out. Then you will find it will be a much better OS to use. Until then, be happy that 'early adopters' exist. It is there job to find the bugs, so you don't have to." :) ;) :p
