Ordered my Gadget Infinity V2 Cactus triggers on e-bay April 30, and received today, May 09. So just 8 business days Hong Kong to Canada, very fast.

The build quality is good, and sturdy enough for the job of holding my 580 on a light stand at different angles. The base foot is metal and did not twist or turn. The plastic construction is not NASA grade, but again certainly up to the job it will be asked to do.

It came with a battery, and worked perfectly the first time. I plan to add to this thread later when I have a chance to test more fully. For now here are a couple of pics:

Looking forward to the review.
One thing that concerned me with the previous version was the PC socket would turn in the casing when twisting a PC plug in and out, which could possibly lead to the wires breaking off inside. You may want to check for this.

Thanks for the review. I ordered a set last week. Any further updates would be appreciated, especially for the newbies to flash (like me).

Just a quick word on some limited testing .. 100% positive firing indoors at distances up to 40 feet (I need a bigger house) and the maximum sync I could obtain was 1/200 with my 20D.

Curtis has provided a comprehensive review of the previous version:
https://photography-on-the.net/forum/...d.php?t=243987

I think the construction is largely the same but the new V2 (Cactus) has cured the mis-firing with Canon flashes 430 & 580.

It fired reliably under any circumstances I created .. going to another room, putting the camera behind my back down the hall and the flash behind my camera bag in another room and a foil reflector in between did not affect anything .. the flash still fired.

And no misfires either. Anyway tomorrow I have an interior to shoot so we'll see if the good performance continues and I'll get a chance to try outdoors as well.

Im now thinking about ordering this set, it would allow me to add my canon speedlite to my setups and do away with coards.

Quick Question, where did you get those umbrella brackets?

60D, Canon 18-135 IS, Sigma 10-20 hsm, 24-70 2.8 hsm, 70-200 2.8 hsm, 430EX II, and all the other stuff that goes along with it.

I got that in a local store but it is the same as many brackets you see on ebay for very cheap .. the only difference is mine has the additional "tail" which can be used for one of the larger hammerhead style flashes (or anything else you want to put there)

The additional tail area is held in place with two screws and can be removed.

Friday was the first time I had a working shoot (interior) which required using the V2 trigger extensively and it performed perfect. No misfires and it reliably triggered the flash through walls & around corners, etc. My only reservation is the construction which is adequate for light use but for heavy use it may not hold up .. the shape & height of the trigger with stand makes it a little unstable. For those situations you can use a hotshoe adapter with a sync cord from V2 to flash and just strap it to the stand like a Pocket Wizard.

For anyone interested there is a LOT more info on these V2 triggers on the Strobist Flickr group, including photos of a damaged one (broke by the mount) and an antenna mod (16cm of single strand telephone wire) that fires up to 1,000 feet.

Does anyone know if there is a "version"2" (V2) with the 1/4 inch phono plug output (no hotshoe).

The hotshoe version seems cumbersome on a umbrella bracket (adds a lot of height to the flash assembly) and it requires a more specialized 3V battery (not two AA or AAA used in the versions with the cord output).

Enjoy! Lon

My V2 order just landed on my desk this morning. This will be my first 'off camera' flash attempt, so I'm looking forward to trying it tonight with my 430EX. I don't have a light meter, so I'm sure it'll be a lot of trial and error.

:)
