Perhaps the guys at photo.net are a bit too caustic with their criticisms then. I liked the look of those lights. I had to slap myself afterwards to remind myself that I am a location photographer and not a studio photographer.

Can you link me to the discussion you saw? I did quite a lot of searching before buying anything, and basically I found that people that didn't have them would be busy telling anyone enquiring about them how low powered, poor quality etc they where, while those with them found them slightly underpowered but otherwise acceptable. I'm not a big fan of mainly studio based idea that the more light you have the better - I'm happy to work in ISO 200 or 400, or have a slightly more open aperture - rather than end up with 4 1600Ws lights weighing me down and consuming power like nothing else.

Anyway, I guess I'll just have to wait and see :D

The same mistake has been made on that thread as has been made on this one. the guide number quoted (48) is in metres - as the rest of the world is metric - but americans all assume it's feet. The guide numbers of most things (eg 430EX has a guide number of 43m, 580EX is 58M) outwith the US is in metres - it is only the US that quotes things in feet.

Anyway...

Being British, I use meters for my guide number calculations and centigrade for my temperature measurements. All others can learn to do the same (gosh, I'm tolerant today).

i have the same model that i bought from china....
well...i dunno if is the problem of the battery....therez one time i was shooting indoor with my friend for fun..like only 30~45 minutes into the shoot, the sync became very weak....and it couldnt even synchronize with the shutter speed, even the shutter speed is slower than 1/200...b4 was perfectly ok....and....i dunno why i couldnt get enough range outdoor to shoot even a car's length....bugs me...gotta switch the batter of the transmitter and see if it'll work better....

I don't know if that's meant to be sarcasm, but considering that the use of imperial has caused spaceships to crash, people to spread misinformation about the power of this flash (well...not the same level really) and generally causes confusion for no reason, then yes, I think imperial shouldn't be used.

Anyway, metric makes way more sense.

Out of curiosity, when did the V2's come out? I shy'd away from these wireless triggers due to misfires and what not . After reading 10 pages of this topic, it seems like a mix'd feeling in that it works and it doesn't work.

I'm curious to try it out and although it's relatively inexpensive, would you say that this is an improvement over the v2? in terms of worthy to try out now as opposed to the v1's.

nutsnbolts - ive only had experience with the v2s' and i rarely have misfires, when i press the shutter, 90% of the time they will go off.

however, if im not pressnig the shutter, and im walking around with my transmitter on camera, they will sometimes still go off, but i think thats because im getting too close to the recievers themselves.

i still need to do the antenna mod, which should make them even more reliable.

As cheap as this can be, I just hate "ghetto" setups. A mod here and duck tape there. Gaffer tape here gaffer tape there.

PW's just needs to be cheaper!

I did the antenna mod as well, and mine have been 100% reliable.

The issue I have with these, is that when I tilt the flash forward or back on the stand, it loses contact with the receiver, and will not trigger. So basically, if the flash isn't nearly vertical, it doesn't make contact with the receiver and it won't fire. I haven't tried any solution to remedy this problem yet.

weird... i havent noticed anything with that.

however, i am using a stack of pennies to shim the gap between the metal bracket and the plastic unit itself so it stays stable when its on my umbrella stands.

without anything in between the bracket and the plastic body, the unit tends to bend over by itself, which can be pretty annoying.
