Above it shows a PC sync cord attached to a pocketwizard. This can be used with the ebay trigger without using the trigger as a support for the flash. It means you can use a proper metal stand that doesn't have the risk of failing.

Probably more elegant solutions but this shows it works:

Can this be done straight out the box, or does it require modding of some kind?

I presume this (external link)is the trigger that's being discussed. But what are the differences between this receiver (external link) and this receiver (external link)?

EDIT: Don't worry, I found it out myself.. This (external link)is the trigger I should have been looking at.

I think the v2 is the on that is compatible with speedlite flashguns. The one is the what makes the flash gun fire intermittently. Not sure though.

It can be done out of the box though. Your flash gun requires a PC sync socket though, Speedlites do not have this out of the box as you cannot use E-TTL on a sync cord.

If you want to use that config with your speedlits you will need to do the mod that allows you to by adding a stereo jack.

So I pulled out the unit to test while in Banff this past weekend. Jon and I were outside cooking up some beef on the BBQ in the evening light, with this great mountain behind us. I figured this would be an ideal situation to test out the wireless trigger. After a few shots, here we are, or Jon and the BBQ:

Please help. Question about V2 Trigger
I just got mine in the mail. I put the battery in and flipped the switch to on, but the little red light on the receiver did not turn on. Does it only light up when it receives a signal? I tried to fire my 580 flash, but no luck. The red light on the trigger lights up when I press the test button. I am hoping it is just a dead battery. Any thoughts?

Sounds like the receiver is either damaged, or you haven't turned it on. the red light only comes on when you press the trigger or trigger it with the camera.

Not sure what is wrong with it not working with the flash. If it is a v2 it should work without a hitch.

On second thought, is the flash in manual mode?

Is the battery in the receiver still wrapped in the very tight transparent plastic?
Have you changed the code?

The light on the transmitter only comes on when it's transmitting.

Tried mine out on a job today. Did a location shoot for an awards presentation. I made a velcro strap to go around the foot of the reciever, then wrap it tight around the light stand and used the 12 inch pc cord that came with my 283. The rest of the lights had optical slaves. The thing worked perfectly up to about 20 yards, the best sync time I could get was 1/200th. Ill get some new batteries and that should fix the distance and slow sync. Best thing Ive bought all year. It also works perfectly with a 550ex and a pc to hot shoe adapter. Like many have said, the build isnt super and it raises the light out of center with umbrellas so Ill just use it with a short cord like you would a pocket wizzard.

Highly recommended!

60D, Canon 18-135 IS, Sigma 10-20 hsm, 24-70 2.8 hsm, 70-200 2.8 hsm, 430EX II, and all the other stuff that goes along with it.

If you replace the battery the sync speed will soon be 1/200th because that is it's max speed.

Yes! Got it to go! Thanks guys for the suggestions. I read Pepperoni's and was thinking to myself "Everyone checks to make sure there is no wrapper on the batterie don't they?" Then I went to try and get mine to work again and duuuuuuuu they plastic was still on the batterie. PEPPERONI is the master of the fundamentals and my savior for the day. Thanks.
