Good to hear it was something simple and you're back up and running.

If you replace the battery the sync speed will soon be 1/200th because that is it's max speed.

The V2 should have a sync speed up to 1/1000, quote from ebay description "The transmitter emits radio signal to the receiver when shutter is pressed. The receiver, once picks up the signal, will trigger off the external flash unit. Highest responding time is 1/1000s."

My 20D sync's up to 1/250 but at this time using the V2 I am getting some shutter black out at that speed. From other postes here and on strobist new batteries and maybe the antenna mod should clear this up.

60D, Canon 18-135 IS, Sigma 10-20 hsm, 24-70 2.8 hsm, 70-200 2.8 hsm, 430EX II, and all the other stuff that goes along with it.

I just got mine yesterday, I ordered it last friday. I live in toronto Canada... pretty quick for a hong kong shipping.

I made the same mistake as plugging the battery in with the wrapper attached to it! then I realized it after a couple of minutes.. ahha

works pretty well... But i dont think i will trust it enugh to simply hook it to a tripod with the trigger on the bottom. i'll have to probably get a pc to hotshoe adapter wouldnt I?

I would advise it. I certainly won't be mounting my new 580EX directly onto the unit. :P

I use my 580 directly on the unit secured to a lightstand and feel pretty nervous about it. Right now I'm thinking about either safety wiring the 580 to the stand with a bungie cord or using a hotshoe asapter.

I'd go with the hot shoe adapter, is it really worth the risk of it falling and hitting the stand with the sharp stop from the safety wire?

a V2 of the non hotshoe would be nic, like lon I dont want the hotshoe version. But I have to say I've been getting good results from the ones I have so I guess its all relative. Its good to know the v2's are working well for so many though!

Which hot shoe adaptor are you guys getting?

I'm looking to get a 16 channel for my AB 400 and also maybe this one for the Sigma 500 when I want to use it alone (can the wireless trigger from for strobe work on this one?)

However, I want to use the Sigma 500 as a background light with the AB400 too, do you know which adaptor I need?

Thanks

Get some bungee cord, it will be elastic so the 580ex will not stop suddenly if it were to fall. Thats what i will be doing, i may just use a cord to a hotshoe mount though.

I've been using this, but I don't know the model .. it's a pretty common device so someone should have a link to one, it's just a hotshoe with a sync cord on the other end.

They're very cheap on eBay, as long as they have a metal construction they'll be nice and strong

Just did a quick search but got nothing. I'm sure there are some on eBay US. I only tried eBay UK.
