Any idea if this will work with a Canon 350D (Rebel) because I looked at it but couldn't figure out where the sync cable went on my camera.

:(

No PC socket on the XT. You need a hotshoe-pc adaptor.

Hi

The ebay radio triggers all use hotshoe-based transmitters, and so don't use a sync cable. There is an option to use one for cameras without hotshoes, but it doesn't really make sense to use it when you have a hotshoe.

The 350D also doesn't have a PC Port. I had a small block made by hama that converted a hotshoe into a sync port. Again, it's not needed for these radio triggers, but if you are using a standard studio and PC Sync cables to trigger strobes, then it makes sense to get one. You can get them from 7dayshop.com.

And now my own question. Does anyone know if these are compatible with the older v1? As far as I know, the mod that allowed you to use speedlights with the v1 was simply to add some sort of resistor into the circuit. Are the new ones using the same radio frequencies as the old ones?

I'm gaining a new appreciation for these Chinese wireless gizmos. I had assumed they were infra-red.

I understand from the company site that the V1 and V2 are incompatible. I also hear there's a V2s model out there.

So basically if I just want to use it with a off camera Speedlight 580ex and my Canon 350D (Rebel) then it doesn't need a sync cable and it will work?

yes - just buy a gadgetinfinity trigger and a gadgetinfinity receiver.

As long as they are the cactus v2 versions, they should work no problem.

I just bought a transmitter receiver pair and three extra receivers from jiakgong-DIGITAL. $80 isn't too much of a gamble. I figure if they work then all is well. if they don't then I can write it off to experience and quit looking for alleged bargains.

I like the fact I can put everything onto lighting stands as well as tripods. Actually, lighting stands is my next planned purchase aside from some flash units.

I recommend you look at This seller (external link) for relatively cheap studio stuff.

Damn. He's got some nice kit.

I might be after some stands and brolleys from him later.

Any idea of whether this is a monolight or not?

"Continues Lamp 50ws"

That strobe has so little power though...

Hang on... How can he say 180ws then continues lamp 50ws? I don't understand that at all. The GN of 48 looks reasonable.

Never mind - found an article on photo.net about it. Looks like the guy hasn't a clue what he's selling.

A continious lamp is a modeling light, which are not nearly as powerful as the flash itself. A little vivitar 285hv has close to 3x more power than that strobe.

The only issue here of lack of clue is the "s" after the W on the continuous lamp.

Lorek uses those strobes - they are certainly not the most powerful, but they're not all together bad. I've bought some :D - I'll post a review when I get them.

There is two lights here. A modelling lamp - a 50W standard bulb, and a 180Ws xenon flash tube. I believe that the expression Watt seconds basically means the flash uses 180 joules in a flash, but I'm probably wrong... :D

The vivitar guide number your using for that comparison is in feet rather than meters. The guide number for the strobe linked is in meters. Feet are approximately 3x meters... :D

So it's of similar power to the vivitar.

Perhaps the guys at photo.net are a bit too caustic with their criticisms then. I liked the look of those lights. I had to slap myself afterwards to remind myself that I am a location photographer and not a studio photographer.
